Child Protection

Every child and young person has the right to live free from violence, abuse, and exploitation. At SASCU, we work to ensure that children and young people can thrive in safe, supportive environments where their rights are respected, and their wellbeing is prioritized.

We understand that many forms of abuse and exploitation are driven by poverty, family breakdown, and domestic instability—factors that can make them vulnerable to harm. Our programs focus on addressing these root causes, strengthening resilience, and providing access to inclusive protection services that prevent and respond to all forms of abuse, violence, and exploitation.

Recognizing the strong link between violence against women and violence against children, we apply integrated strategies that protect both groups and promote peaceful family relationships. Our approach includes gender-transformative parenting programs that tackle intimate partner violence and harmful practices such as child marriage and corporal punishment.

SASCU Child Protection Initiatives

We promote gender transformative parenting and non-violent discipline, both at home and in schools, and support the development of school- and community-based protection plans that create safe learning environments for both out of school and school going children.

In humanitarian contexts, we support refugee and displaced children by establishing Child-Friendly Spaces (CFS) where they can play, learn, and build social connections safely. We prioritize the most vulnerable children—such as unaccompanied minors, orphans, children with disabilities, and those in need of counselling—ensuring they receive the care and support required.

We also empower children and young people to participate in community-led protection initiatives, helping them identify and report risks and abuses. For children who migrate to the streets, we prioritize rapid rescue, rehabilitation, and reintegration into family or community care. When reintegration is not possible, we arrange safe and appropriate alternative care.

Protecting vulnerable children from all forms of violence is central to SASCU’s work. We focus on supporting families and communities to provide effective protection mechanisms, ensuring that children are protected from abuse, neglect, and exploitation. For children who have already suffered abuse, we provide safe opportunities where they can heal, learn, and thrive.
