SASCU strongly believes that each child requires a nurturing environment to thrive. Children who later grow up into young people and women need a sense of belonging, security, protection, emotional support and participate in making decisions which are critical for their sense of identity and well-being. By recognizing the child’s right to a loving home, SASCU works towards creating a society that prioritizes the well-being, safety, and development of all children into responsible adults. SASCU’s work is primarily geared towards responding to the needs of street connected children, providing them with a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment to thrive, with the ultimate goal of reintegrating them into society. Family strengthening, rescue, emergency care, rehabilitation and community reintegration are part of SASCU’s main tools in this work.
At Save Street Children Uganda (SASCU), our mission is clear:
“To promote the rights of children in street situations along with other vulnerable children, young people and women in Uganda through research, information, advocacy, service delivery, participation and empowerment interventions, in collaboration with others, to enhance their socio-economic welfare. “
We are dedicated to creating lasting impact by restoring dignity, providing opportunities, and advocating for the well-being of every child. Together, we can transform lives and build a brighter future for Uganda’s most vulnerable.
At Save Street Children Uganda (SASCU), we are guided by a set of core values that define our work and shape the way we serve children and communities. These values are at the heart of everything we do:
•Respect for human dignity
•Learning
•Child participation
•Volunteerism
•Integrity
•Transparency and Accountability
Save Street Children Uganda (SASCU) pursues a focused, measurable strategy to ensure children, young people, and vulnerable women are protected, learning, healthy, economically resilient, and prepared for a changing climate—while strengthening the organizational systems that sustain this work for the long term.
Our approach is rights-based, survivor-centered, and community-driven. We work in partnership with government, schools, health providers, faith and community leaders, and families to strengthen prevention and response, expand access to essential services, and restore dignity and opportunity for those most at risk. Across all our work, we prioritize inclusion—especially for girls, young mothers, children with disabilities, and the most vulnerable households—while investing in evidence, safeguarding, and transparent accountability.
We deliver this strategy through six Strategic Objectives:
To ensure that systems that protect children and young people from abuse, violence and exploitation are responsive, inclusive, and sustainably resourced.
To increase equitable and inclusive access to quality early childhood, basic education, and lifelong learning opportunities for all children and young people.
To ensure that children, young people and women access to quality, comprehensive age and gender-appropriate health services, including sexual and reproductive health and mental health.
To enhance the economic resilience of vulnerable families with at-risk children and young people through social protection and inclusive economic opportunities.
To enhance participation of children, young people and women in inclusive adaptation and risk reduction initiatives that address specific vulnerabilities and enhance community-level preparedness to climate change.
To strengthen SASCU's internal efficiency, financial sustainability, and accountability through improved governance, robust systems, and effective resource management.
