Climate change has far-reaching consequences, with the most severe impacts affecting the most vulnerable, especially street-connected children, young people, women, and refugee populations. For those already facing adversity, climate-related disruptions worsen existing hardships and create new threats, such as loss of shelter, disrupted access to basic services, and displacement. Street-connected children and refugee communities are particularly at risk, as environmental shocks destabilize fragile livelihoods and push families further into vulnerability.
SASCU is committed to protecting children, young people, and women, including refugees and other displaced persons from the adverse effects of climate change. We achieve this through targeted protection measures, inclusive adaptation strategies, and the strengthening of climate-responsive systems. Our programs aim to ensure the meaningful participation of affected communities in climate justice processes while fostering environmentally conscious communities empowered to advocate for a sustainable and resilient future.
To realize this, SASCU integrates climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction into all development and humanitarian programming. We support the leadership of children and young women including those in refugee and host communities, in community-based resilience initiatives that protect rights and promote well-being. We also encourage child-led and young women-led climate-smart innovations that address local realities and aspirations.
In addition, SASCU promotes access to renewable energy, particularly in underserved and displaced communities, and works to reduce the environmental footprint of our own operations.
