Innocent and Gloria Byaruhanga Oburye

Save Street Children Uganda (SASCU) was founded in 2005 by Innocent and Gloria Byaruhanga Oburye, a couple united by their shared vision to transform the lives of homeless and vulnerable children in Uganda.

Gloria, a former banker, made the remarkable decision to leave her career to fully dedicate herself to supporting Innocent in establishing and running SASCU. Her leadership, compassion, and strategic vision have been instrumental in shaping the ministry and advancing its mission.

Gloria’s passion for farming and sustainability complements SASCU’s goals. She serves as the Director of Sustainability at Providence Farm, where her efforts ensure long-term impact for the ministry. Additionally, as Secretary to the Board of Directors, Gloria plays a pivotal role in guiding SASCU’s growth and effectiveness.

Innocent’s story is one of resilience and hope. Having lived on the streets of Kampala for nine years as a child, his life transformed in 1999 when a missionary introduced him to Christ and provided him with both spiritual and physical refuge. This encounter sparked a deep desire in Innocent to bring hope and opportunity to other children facing similar struggles.

Reflecting on his past, Innocent recalls the touch of a cold, hollow night and the breath of despair. Yet, his deepest desire is to see a society where no child is forced to live on the streets.

Together, Innocent and Gloria have devoted their lives to providing care, education, and a loving home for children in need. At Providence Farm, they are raising 86 orphaned children while continuing to rescue and reintegrate hundreds of children from the streets and vulnerable communities. Many have been reunited with their families, and others have gone on to lead successful, independent lives.

Their ministry is driven by the biblical call in James 1:27 and Isaiah 1:17 to care for orphans and vulnerable children. Reflecting on their journey, Innocent shares:

“We want every child to have a place to call home, to explore opportunities, and to reach their full potential. God has placed a strong desire in our hearts to be advocates for these children and to inspire others to join this mission.”

Join us in supporting their vision and making a lasting impact in the lives of Uganda’s most vulnerable children.
